Initial experience is confusing for users
Reported by Michael Tierney | October 20th, 2010 @ 12:08 AM | in v1.1
What should happen:
User shows up, finds an event, and goes out to enjoy said event.
What does happen (even if only momentarily):
What am I looking for now?
So, the point of this is that when a user first experiences the application, they should be immediately (or at least very quickly) be presented with a list of events that are happening near them.
I'd originally wanted to use the HTML5 geolocation APIs for this, but that's a slow and cumbersome process that involves far too many external resources to be really reliable right now.
Your task (should you choose to accept it, and you really should) is to find a way to give users a list of results, right on their first page load. It's a tricky problem to solve, but they should probably never see an empty page with a search box (unless they've executed a search that returns no results, but that's a different ticket).
